Shaughnessy Village Association
There was a public consultation meeting held on November 30, 2004, regarding crime and security. Ben Smith, who wrote the following report, is a board member who, along with Albert Wener, chairs the security committee.

The meeting with Mme Lebrun was short but informative. Besides myself, we were
represented by Caroline Nobasniak, Claire Adamson, and Jean Giguère(although he
was representing the merchants of our area).  There were only three other
participants, all of them employees of the city, so our interest seemed
evident.

It seems the Federal government, through the Quebec Ministry of Public Security
is proposing to sponsor certain committees, in our case one per each of the
three districts of Ville Marie (Peter McGill, St-Jacques, and Ste-Marie), whose
mandate it will be to propose measures for crime prevention in their districts.
These committees will be composed of representatives of community
organisations like our own, from the police, the business community, from
schools and universities, and from the social services.  It sounds as if it
could get a little out of hand with so many people involved, but the idea is
good and our input should be there.
