Hi Everyone – here we are heading into mid-spring and if you have had a chance to walk around the Village you will see the gardens and park are starting to bloom with bursts of color. And so the Village springs back into life after all of us have been in hibernation for so long.

1) Many thanks to Geraldine Stringer and her gang for putting on one of the most successful ‘Clean-Up Days’ we’ve ever had – volunteers from all over the Village came out on a gorgeous spring day to clean up the alley ways – after the work was done 100 hot dogs, drinks etc  were cooked up and served by Albert Wener and gang and served at the after cleanup BBQ. Guests included Marc Garneau, Karim Boulos and Catherine Sevigny. So congrats to all who turned out for this event ( see the clean-up video on our website www.shaughnessyvillage.org put together by Derek)

2) If you have not all ready done so please send your membership dues to Carmel or drop them off at 1916 Tupper – this is money that keeps the Association running

3) Our city councilor Karim Boulos has advised that the work on the St Marc crosswalk and lights and the new lights for Seymour Ave is now scheduled for July due to late delivery of parts – also Karim and the borough together with our association are trying to solve the problem that is now known as 1240 St Marc – there is a smelly restaurant opened there which is violating its permit and we have made a strong appeal to have the place closed – we’ll keep you informed as to what happens

4) If you have any seasonal clothing eg spring & summer, that you are thinking of discarding Chez Doris will be happy to take it – there are located at 1430 Chomedy

5) Our lanelight project, which under the guidance of Toni Bramley has been a great success, will continue with the installation of new lights only – we have about $3000.00 left to spend from the original grant of $10,000.00 from the borough. We will spend the balance of the  money on new installations only and repairs will now have to be done by the residents – if you need to contact an electrician we used Herb Zangler who can be reached at 514 332 5854 – mention you are from SV

6) The Association is still very much involved in the following projects: The Seville Theatre Block, the Grey Nuns/Concordia project which has been manned by a great effort from Don Ramsey and residents on St Marc Street , the 1217 Seymour Ave project which is being headed by the Seymour Ave residents

7) The annual park clean-up and BBQ will take place on Wednesday May 20th – I will be sending out another reminder closer to the date – please come out and help us plant and clean up the park – everyone likes the park and the flowers but it takes people to maintain it – lets have 10 people giving an hour to make the place look good rather than have 2 people spend 3 hours each – get my drift

8) Due to the fact that we raised nearly $6000.00 at our St Pat’s Brunch & Auction we have been able to give more to the charities we support (for those who do not know what charities we support there are Nazareth House, Chez Doris and the Open Door and we support them on an year round on going basis) and also have given a special one time amount to the Atwater Library – thanks to all of you who have made this happen

9) The police at Station 12 have advised that drug dealing in our area has dropped significantly (hope that you have noticed it) due to the street direction changes, more undercover cops and a general clean-up in the area – car break ins continue to be a problem – please remember if you see, hear or are a victim of crime or an attempted crime call 911 – we must have the problems registered at the station and also let our Security board member, Ben Smith who is in contact with the police at Benjamin.smith@polymtl.ca know  - it is important that all crimes however big or small are called in to the police – we will be having an open meeting for members with the police in the next few weeks

10) Up-coming events – SVA Summer Social – date to be announced – and a very special up-coming production by the SV Players – details will be announced in up coming up-dates –

Please remember to check out our web-site www.shgaughnessyvillage.org – remember that your board meets once a month and your are welcome to attend if you wish – our next meeting is scheduled for May 27th 2009 – if you have something you thing your board should be looking into please let me know at allstar@canadafilm.com or just come to the meeting

Thanks - Roger
